【EVA Skin Tips Vol.4 – 🤯 Does Sugar Harm Your Skin?】
To achieve healthy skin, it’s essential to consider various factors! 💁🏻♀️ I’ve always emphasized a balanced approach, both inside and out. Let me remind you which foods to avoid or consume in moderation!
Recently, I’ve developed a love for a certain mango pudding in Kowloon and a hot almond milk stewed with egg whites on Hong Kong Island. This has led me to frequently drive out to satisfy these cravings after dinner. However, I always feel a bit uneasy after indulging 😂… The main culprit is sugar, the “number one enemy” of beautiful skin! Reducing sugar intake is not only good for overall health but also greatly benefits the skin. 🙏🏻
🗣️ True Story Sharing
A close friend of mine had a brother who struggled with eczema for years. His legs were so itchy and painful that they oozed pus and fluid. Eventually, he decided to completely cut out sugar for an entire year. Miraculously, he healed, and I’m sharing this story with you. ❤️ It’s important to note that he avoided bread, rice, and fruits, too. What other foods contain hidden sugars? Read on…
💥 How Does Sugar Affect Your Skin?
1️⃣ Eczema Aggravation: For eczema sufferers, sugar is a trigger that worsens skin inflammation. Reducing sugar intake is crucial. Discussions with both Western and Chinese doctors confirm that sugar is a major irritant for eczema and allergies.
2️⃣ Acne and Blemishes: Excessive sugar increases insulin levels, which boosts androgen production, leading to increased sebum secretion. This results in enlarged pores, inflammation, acne, and blackheads.
3️⃣ Sagging Skin and Wrinkles: Glycation occurs when excess sugar in the body binds with proteins, producing advanced glycation end products (AGEs). This process promotes melanin synthesis, hardens collagen and elastin fibers, and leads to dullness, dark spots, sagging, and wrinkles.
💥 Which Foods Are Sugar Traps?
Don’t think that avoiding desserts, sodas, and reducing carbohydrate intake (such as rice, noodles, and bread) means you’re safe from high sugar intake. Many foods are hidden sugar traps. Always check the nutrition labels! 🤗
- Yogurt, probiotic drinks, sports drinks, nut energy bars
- Fruit juices, dried fruits, preserved fruits
- Sauces like ketchup, salad dressing, barbecue sauce, mirin
- High-sugar fruits such as grapes, watermelon, bananas, durian, mangoes, longan
- Some instant oatmeal, cornflakes, and cereal breakfasts
- Processed meats like sausages and smoked foods
🥰 The human body needs sugar to convert into energy, and most people don’t need to cut out sugar completely. I allocate my sugar quota to natural sugars or whole starch foods while avoiding refined and processed sugars as much as possible!
